Summer Accessory Update - Don't Make These Mistakes

It's that time of the summer when you're hot and running out of ideas to entertain yourself or your children in this heat. And wearing cute clothes is about the last thing on your mind because all you want to be in is something cool and easy. So how do stay stylish? With accessories!
If you're wearing a lot of the same summer (white) clothes over and over like I do, mix it up with different accessories. And the colors don't exactly have to match. Don't take yourself so seriously.
Summer Accessory Updates: Do's and Don'ts
1. Do start with a blank slate.
I'm starting with a simple white sundress. I added a brown belt and a brown woven clutch from Calypso.
It's more cost effective to buy clothes in one palette so you can mix and match, and then spice it up with different kinds of accessories.
2. Do add a pop of color; don't worry about matching too much.
Yep, still obsessed with turquoise jewelry.
3. When you wear statement jewelry, let the rest of your accessories play a supporting role; don't overload.
The earrings are kinda it, so even though I added a series of necklaces, they are simple and similar and dainty.
Or, go with a statement necklace, like these turquoise beads (shop them here inside the July Vault, Style Notes). I kept my earrings simple.
Or how about a belt? Belts are a brilliant way to update a sundress. Don't wear a strong necklace if the belt is attention-getting. I added bracelets instead.

4. Do have fun with summer clutches; don't overpay for them.
I love summer clutches because you can usually find great bargains on fun materials like straw, raffia and beaded ones. By nature these should not be expensive because of the material, so don't overpay!
You can also stand to take a bit of risk with a summer clutch if it's fun and inexpensive.
If you go for woven leather, like this one featured in the Style Vault, you will pay more. But the good news is that you can carry a cognac leather clutch all fall and winter, too, not to mention it goes with everything you own. So cost per wear goes down as multiple uses goes up!
