Shop Your Closet: A Week's Worth of Outfits To Copy

Tina, here.

Looking for some outfit inspiration but not yet ready to spend your spring wardrobe allowance? I've got the solution. Shop your closet. Here's what you need and what you probably have in your closet already. If you don't, I have all my favorite sources for these classic wardrobe staples inside the Style Vault. Learn more about our members-only shopping service here.

Here's what we're starting with this week:

1. white jeans or cords

I've been wearing my white jeans, as you know, all winter. But on the coldest of days, cords are a little warmer. Mine are J.Crew from years ago.

2. black jeans or pants

3. faded or light rinse jeans

4. a colored pair of jeans or cords (I'm using grey, which I consider a color)

5. white blouse

6. v-neck sweater in a pop of springtime color (I used turquoise)

7. white or off-white blazer or jacket

Ok, so this white wool jacket represents a major splurge in my closet. It's Nina Ricci from Nordstrom a couple seasons ago. I did get it 40% off, thankfully. I wear it with jeans and as a cocktail topper. If you do not have a winter white jacket, you can substitute a white denim jacket.

8. grey or other neutral color jacket or blazer

9. faux fur vest or shearling

10. denim jacket

I am really into denim jackets. But they MUST be a shrunken fit. Do not try and pass your '80's or '90's oversized denim jacket by us. No go. My favorite denim jackets are inside the Style Vault.

11. plaid jacket

12. jewelry

I have 3 statement necklaces I'll switch out all week. This one, my studded horn cross, is from Bergdorf's a million years ago. I was waaaay ahead of this trend, dolls. Stick with us and you'll know about the right trends to adopt and the ones to leave alone.

13. boots

A boot that fits over your skinny pants as well as under your bootcut pants gets that cost per wear down! Mine are Golden Goose.

14. black patent heels

And here's how we create 5 day's worth of outfits, including a going-out look, from just 14 items.

Monday:

Grab a plaid shirt or jacket, and wear it over a white blouse or t-shirt with whote cords or white jeans. Add your knee boots and a fun necklace, For me, it's my buffalo plaid jacket from www.gap.com, my favorite white button-down blouse from www.jmclaughlin.com (email us to find out how to get a discount on this blouse) and my old white J.Crew cords. With a touch of turquoise and my Golden Goose boots.

Tuesday:

It's still winter. Keep your cashmere in the rotation. Your white jeans and cords are still fine unless you did yoga in them, so day 2 you're in the same pants and a colorful cashmere sweater. Now add a faux fur vest or jacket, and your trusty boots.

 Wednesday:

Wash your white cords and jeans - you'll need them again later. Find your light rinse or faded jeans. If you don't have them, you need them. Big trend. I've already found your faded jeans for the season; inside the Style Vault, because I called this trend back in January and hunted down the ones you need now. They are still available so join the Vault now to get yours. Add your white button-down blouse or t-shirt, and now find your favorite blazer. I prefer a lighter color like grey or camel. Add a pashmina for some interest and texture.

Thursday:

Wash your white blouse - yes, you'll need it later. Today we have your office to cocktails look. You'll want to grab your black jeans or pants, add a silk blouse with a pretty, soft neckline. Mine is in blush, by Haute Hippie from www.GusMayer.com in Nashville. Now, grab that winter white blazer or denim jacket, and a sparkly necklace. You'll trade the boots for a black patent pump. Mine are, get ready for it, Manolo Blahnik from eBay. Thankyouverymuch.

Friday:

Got your favorite white blouse all crisp and clean? Good, cause pull it out again and wear it with your colored jeans (mine are grey, which is color for me). Now grab that light-colored blazer and add a statement necklace, and instead of boots, your black pumps to take the whole look up a notch.

Friday evening:

Headed to the movies, or a school game, or dinner with friends? Grab those trusty white jeans or cords and the white tee or blouse, then your denim jacket and boots. Done.

Tone on tone with a pop of color is my truth. Not truth with a capital T, but my clothing philosophy for sure. Now, when can you get away with doing color and pattern in a big way? SPRING and SUMMER.
