Rediscover Spring Coats

Tina, here.

Looking for a wardrobe solution to transition your winter wardrobe into spring? Or to make wearing your pretty spring and summer sleeveless tops and dresses easier? Oh beauties, you’re gonna love us for this spring must-have. A spring coat or spring topper is your ticket to wearing all those pretty sleeveless and short-sleeve dresses and tops you want to wear but don’t because of your arms (which, let it be said, I think you don’t need to worry about your arms the way you do – they’re fine and no one is noticing but you). And it's how you take a winter outfit into spring, driving that cost per wear down and justifying your clothing budget!

A spring coat is a brilliant invention.

Spring Coats

1. A Non-Traditional Trench Coat

A suede trench? Maybe not the most versatile trench in the world, but certainly a fun spin on a spring coat essential.

You know the drill, start off with a coat in the morning, and by noon you're most likely gonna toss it. Either in the backseat of your car, your office closet, or over your shoulders.

One of my favorite looks is white, black and tan. Looks good together four seasons out of the year.

2. A Lady Coat

I share a love for the spring coat with my friend Francie, who I always think of when I wear this vintage silk coat. It's the palest of buttery yellow, and I only wear it to dress up in for things like a ladies lunch or a spring shower.

Because a spring coat is a non-essential, you can play with the fabric and shape a bit, i.e. take some risks and try a swing coat or a fabric you typically wouldn't wear.

But the best thing about a spring coat? It's how you make wearing sleeveless and short sleeve dresses and tops possible. You get the added layer without the unnecessary warmth. Shop a gorgeous white sheath inside the April Style Notes.

Vault Insiders, shop one of the best spring toppers/spring coats I have seen in a loooong time, inside the April Style Vault. It's also just about $125!

The thing about the first 2 spring coats I've just shown you is that neither can be worn in the rain. So....

3. A Spring Anorak

April showers. But they do bring May flowers!

I wear my anoraks like my trench coats, rain or shine. But you do need a dedicated rain coat that keeps you dry and warm and fights the wind. I don't like wind, so that's important to me, to have a windbreaker.

Keep an umbrella in the backseat of your car, or in your tote. You just never know in April when a shower will pop up, and you gotta be prepared. I keep one in my backseat at all times. Maybe I should keep rainboots on hand, too. I'm wearing old Hunter boots I've had forEVER.

Even if you're prepared with a travel umbrella at all times, you still need a hood on that raincoat or anorak. You just never know with the winds blowing if your umbrella will suffice. This hood tucks nicely into the neck pocket when not in use.
