Embrace (don't fear) This Wardrobe Multiplier: The White Skirt

You know how I love white jeans, right? Well I love white skirts just about as much. So much so that I'm showing you today how I wear mine. A white skirt is a wardrobe multiplier extraordinaire.

You're thinking, Tina, you don't know what my fanny looks like in white jeans, much less a white skirt, so no thank you. Just gonna skip this blog today. Whoah, whoah, whoah. Hold your horses there, cowgirl. You can wear white on your bottom half. It's all about fit and fabric and shape.

Ways To Wear A White Skirt: A-Line Skirts

I'm starting with my white A-Line skirt. It's a great shape if you want to de-emphasize your hips and bum. That's because the slight flare around your knees balances your hips. JUST LIKE A BOOTCUT JEAN! Gosh, I'm consistent. But it's also a heavier fabric. Look for a substantial fabric in white so it doesn't hug your curves, which is what scares women away from white. Guess what? Skimpy and see-through white clothes do emphasize your curves. But you do not look bigger in white if it's the right fabric and shape.

You knew I'd do a white on white look, right? No? Hello, have we met? This off-white a-line skirt I've had for eons is silk taffeta. So I put it with a cotton tee, naturally. And roughened it up a bit more with a suede belt. If you wear something fuller on the bottom half, wear something a bit more fitted up top. (K, let's have a quick chat. Yes, I'm thin. Don't hate me. My body has been through a lot in the last 18 months and I lost a little from all the surgeries. But I write with women in mind from a size 2 to a 22. We know how to make you look and feel great in the right clothes, no matter your size. Mkay cupcakes? Good talk.)

If you need to make the look a little more office ready, add a summer jacket. I love doing nautical in a more subtle way. Navy stripes with a white skirt or jeans. Again, with an a-line skirt, make sure your jacket is nipped in at the waist.

You can see here the jacket is also cropped. SO important with a fuller skirt. You can't have that much fabric happening all at once.

Another fun way to pop a white skirt is with a bright colored top, like this button down blouse I tied at the waist.

This look works great when your skirt has a higher waist. It's a fun, summery way to wear a blouse.

This blouse is a camp shirt. That's why the pockets are ok. They are buttoned down and they fit the style of the shirt. To tie it at the waist, just leave the last 2 buttons undone and tie the ends in a knot. You'll want to then tuck the shirttail under itself so it's not a mullet, short in front, long in back. I probably could've tied it in a double knot.

Ways To Wear A White Skirt: Denim Pencil Skirts

Next we have the beloved white denim skirt, which is more of a pencil shape. Now listen, we put women of every shape and size in pencil skirts. As long as the denim is substantial and has some stretch in it, and it's not an inverted triangle pencil (think Betty Boop), but more of a rectangle, you can swing it, too. Because my skirt is fitted, I love the drapey fabric of this top, especially around my bum. Drapey tops are a great way to skim your bum when wearing white. I found this top at Flip in Nashville, and I really think I'm going to go back and get it.

Ways To Wear A White Skirt: With Color and Pattern

K so how about this color and pattern? I feel so out of sorts in it. Ha. But really, white is the perfect foil for summer's bright colors and patterns. Indulge your love for color by pairing it with white, never black unless you're heading to college game day. Ways To Wear A White Skirt: With Tunics

That tunic you use as a beach cover-up? Wear it with your denim pencil skirt. The length of the tunic counterbalances the white denim skirt when it is shorter and fitted.

Ways To Wear A White Denim Skirt: Nashville Style

Ok so if you have the coolest pair of light-colored boots, not necessarily cowboy boots, I'm fine if you pair them with your white denim skirt. Just make sure the boots come up higher than mid-shin.

This look works because the boots are a light buff-color. Like a nude shoe, they don't interrupt the long line of the leg. Plus a darker brown and certainly a black boot would feel too heavy in the summer heat.
