Cool Hunting: High Style Safari Fashion
Diana, The Huntress, at the Louvre.
I've confided before to you that my alter ego would be in either full-on dressage or safari style clothing. Since two of my favorite books are I Married Adventure (great zebra cover) and Out of Africa, I must have gotten it from these women who lived wild and romantic existences, if not dangerous and far from reality.
Women hunters are having a moment. Did you see the spread in October's Town & Country about these intrepid women who hunt? Or the new book, Chicks With Guns? I predict that their field and pheasant shooting garb will appear interpreted on the runways next fall. I, for one, already have the required accoutrements, sans gun (I'm an animal lover) : the field boot, the waxed cotton jacket, the felt hat with feathers, the silk hunting scarf (well, mine is framed, so I'll have to see about that).
I just hate to say it, but they look so elegant.
A beautiful and haunting portrait.
A safari-themed runway look from Kinder Aggugini.
Meryl Streep as Karen Blixen, in Out of Africa, one of the original adventuresses.
The Field Boot.
The rickshaw bag.
A spotted print belt.
The feathered hat, Gucci.
The silk scarf (try eBay for vintage).
